Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

Seven years old as of 2015, the Mercedes-Benz GLK is getting ready to retire as the brand’s successful compact crossover and make way for the new GLC. Essentially a renamed second-generation GLK, the GLC continues where its predecessor left off, but with significant improvements in many departments. The new exterior design is by far the most comprehensive update, as it borrows heavily from the 2015 C-Class, while leaving the boxy styling of the original GLK behind.

Launched in the United States for the 2010 model year, a year later than in Europe, the luxury crossover quickly became a sales success as deliveries continued to grow for five years in a row. In 2013, GLK annual sales surpassed the 30,000-unit mark, and hit 35,000 in 2014. With stiff competition from both BMW and Audi, Mercedes needs to take these numbers even higher and hopes the GLC will do just that as soon as it hits dealerships.

Will the new crossover have what it takes to push Mercedes up the ladder in this tough niche here in the United States? We won’t find out until the GLC has spent its first full year on the road, and it’s obviously a bit too early given the vehicle won’t break cover until June 17th. Meanwhile, you can have a look at what we already know about this crossover in my speculative review below.

Updated 06/16/2015: With just one day before the SUV’s official debut. Mercedes dropped a new teaser video for the upcoming GLC. Enjoy!
