Mercedes-AMG GLC 63

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 was caught testing looking a whole lot like a standard GLC. Nice try, Merc, but no dice.

Mercedes-Benz launched the GLK at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show as a competitor for the BMW X3 in the compact luxury crossover market. Built on the same platform as the C-Class sedan, the GLK is now part of a three-way crossover battle that also includes the Audi Q5. Initially introduced with a choice of two gasoline engines and a diesel, the GLK received an extensive lineup of mills in its first years, with further updates operated when the crossover was facelifted for 2012. The GLK arrived in the U.S. with two powerplants under the hood; a 200-horsepower 2.1-liter diesel and a 302-pony, 3.5-liter V-6. Unlike most Mercedes models, the GLK did not receive an AMG version. That will change with the second-gen crossover that’s set to debut in 2015 for the 2016 model year. Along with the debut of the second generation comes a new name, as Mercedes is renaming it the GLC.

The news of a future AMG-prepped GLC comes from our trusty paparazzi, who spotted the next-gen crossover being tested with a sportier suspension and larger wheels.
